The basics

What is the Business Model Canvas?

The Business Model Canvas, created by Alexander Osterwalder, describes a business in nine blocks: key partners, activities and resources; value propositions; customer relationships, channels and segments; cost structure and revenue streams.

Working on one page makes gaps obvious — a value proposition with no channel, or costs no revenue covers.

What you can add

  • Sticky note
  • Pink note
  • Blue note
  • Green note
  • Block

Features

What makes it work

  • All nine blocks, laid out

The standard canvas layout, with an example business to show what good notes look like.

  • Lean and Value Proposition canvases

Switch to the Lean Canvas for early ideas, or the Value Proposition Canvas to match product to customer.

  • Colour-coded notes

Use colours for assumptions, facts and experiments as you test the model.
