How to use the SEO Audit Tool
- Open the page you want to check, press Ctrl+U (⌥⌘U on a Mac) to view its source, select all and copy it.
- Paste the HTML here, or upload a saved .html file.
- Add the page URL if you'd like links and the canonical checked against it.
- Work through the Fix items first, then Improve. Copy the report to share it.
What does this tool do?
The audit reads the same HTML a search engine downloads first and checks the on-page basics: one clear title of a sensible length, a meta description, a single H1 and an orderly heading outline, a canonical URL, robots directives that allow indexing, image alt text, link anchor text, Open Graph and X/Twitter tags, valid JSON-LD structured data, the mobile viewport, language and character set.
Each check says why it matters and how to fix it, and the score weights the problems that can stop a page appearing in search (noindex, a missing title or viewport) more heavily than nice-to-haves.
Browsers don't allow one website to download another directly, so instead of fetching a URL the audit works on the HTML you paste. The HTML is read on your device and never uploaded.
Why use it?
- Explains every issue in plain language.
- Google-style result preview.
- Works for pages behind a login or on localhost.
- Private: nothing is uploaded.
Use cases
- Checking a new page or blog post before it goes live.
- Reviewing a client's or competitor's page during an SEO audit.
- Testing pages on a staging site or localhost that online checkers can't reach.
Common mistakes
- Auditing the HTML from the browser's Elements panel instead of View Source. Elements shows the page after JavaScript runs; View Source shows what crawlers download first.
- Treating the score as a ranking. It measures on-page basics only — content quality, links and search intent matter more.
- Adding structured data that doesn't describe what's visible on the page. Only mark up what's really there.

Frequently asked questions
Is this SEO audit tool free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no limit on how many pages you check.
Why can't I just enter a URL?
Browsers block web pages from downloading other websites directly. Pasting the source works for any page, including ones on localhost or behind a login, and nothing is sent to a server.
Does a score of 100 mean I'll rank first?
No. The score covers technical on-page basics. Rankings depend mostly on how well the content answers the search, the site's reputation and links from other sites.
Does it check page speed or backlinks?
No. Use Google PageSpeed Insights for speed and Core Web Vitals, and Google Search Console for links and indexing data.
