How to use the Instagram Post Maker
- Open the editor and choose a size: 4:5 portrait (1080 × 1350), square (1080 × 1080), landscape, a vertical story cover, or your own width and height.
- Browse the 27 templates by category — business, fashion, food, fitness, travel, quotes, marketing, announcements or promotions — or start from a blank canvas.
- Click any text on the canvas to edit it, and drag the handles to resize or rotate. Swap the sample copy for your own words.
- Add your photos from your device (or drop them onto the canvas), then crop and reposition them inside their frames from the Image settings.
- Set your brand colours and fonts once in the Brand panel. Every element that uses a palette colour updates together.
- Switch on the grid and snapping to line things up, check the Layers list for anything hidden or locked, then download a PNG or JPG at standard or high resolution.
What does this tool do?
A feed post is judged in about a second: one idea, readable type and a clear focal point. This editor is built around that. Templates give you a layout that already follows those rules, and every part of it is editable — the words, the colours, the fonts, the photos and the shapes — so the result looks like your brand rather than a stock design.
The workspace has three areas. The left side holds the templates and the elements you can add: text styles, photo frames, sixteen shapes and icons, badges and emoji. The middle is the canvas, where you drag, resize and rotate. The right side shows the settings for whatever is selected — font, size, weight, spacing, alignment, outline and shadow for text; crop and zoom for photos; fill, gradient and outline for shapes — plus a Layers list for order, locking and hiding.
Alignment tools keep the layout tidy. Elements snap to the centre, the safe margins, each other and an optional grid, with guide lines to show what they snapped to. You can also type exact positions and sizes, nudge with the arrow keys, and align or distribute a selection.
Everything happens in your browser. Photos you add, the designs you save and the files you download are never uploaded, and there is no account, watermark or limit. Posts you make are saved automatically in this browser so you can reopen them from My posts later, and a project file lets you move one to another device.
Which Instagram post size should you use?
Instagram shows the feed in a 4:5 portrait crop at most, so a 1080 × 1350 post takes the most room on screen and tends to stop the scroll. Square 1080 × 1080 is the safest all-rounder because it looks the same on your profile grid and in the feed. Landscape posts are the smallest on a phone, so keep them for wide photos.
If you are planning a swipeable post with several images, the Carousel Maker keeps every slide the same size and numbers them for you. To reuse one picture on other networks, the Social Media Image Resizer produces the right shape for each.

Before you post
Write the caption separately and keep the important words of the image away from the edges, because profile thumbnails crop the sides. The safe-margin guide in the editor shows that area. Check the length of your caption against Instagram's limit, and preview how the post will sit in the feed before you publish.

Example: choosing a template and size
The category you pick decides the layout; the size only changes the shape. Any template can be used at any size and the design is scaled to fit.
| Goal | Template category | Suggested size | Download as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Announce a sale or discount code | Promotions | 1080 × 1350 (4:5) | PNG |
| Share a quote or tip | Quotes or Marketing | 1080 × 1080 (1:1) | PNG |
| Show a dish, product or outfit with a photo | Food or Fashion | 1080 × 1350 (4:5) | JPG |
| Invite people to an event | Announcements | 1080 × 1350 (4:5) | PNG |
| Post a workout or travel list | Fitness or Travel | 1080 × 1080 (1:1) | PNG |
| Cover for a story or reel | Any | 1080 × 1920 (9:16) | PNG |
Common mistakes
- Too much text. A feed post is read on a small screen — keep to one idea and a handful of words.
- Small type. On a 1080-pixel post, text under about 28 px is hard to read on a phone.
- Text over a busy photo with no contrast. Add a dark overlay to the photo or put the text on a solid shape.
- Placing key words at the very edge. Profile thumbnails and the feed crop the sides, so stay inside the safe margin.
- Leaving a template's empty photo frame in place. It downloads as a grey placeholder; add a picture or delete the frame.
- Using a photo you do not have the rights to. Use your own pictures or ones you are licensed to use.
Accuracy and limits
- Fonts are the ones installed on your device plus Figtree; no web font service is used. If a font is missing, a similar one is drawn in the editor and in the download, so the file always matches what you see.
- Emoji are drawn by your device's emoji font and therefore look different on different systems.
- Large downloads are capped (3× for square posts, less for taller ones) so that every browser, including phones, can create the file.
- Posts are saved in this browser only. Clearing site data or using a private window can remove them, so save a project file of anything important.
- The editor makes images only. It does not connect to Instagram or post for you.
Privacy
Everything you type is processed in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our servers or stored by us. There's no account to create and nothing to install.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Instagram post maker free?
Yes. Every template, the editor and every download are free. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many posts you make.
What size is an Instagram post?
The two standard sizes are 1080 × 1350 pixels (4:5 portrait), which takes the most room in the feed, and 1080 × 1080 pixels (1:1 square). You can also pick landscape, a 9:16 story-sized canvas or enter a custom size.
Can I use my own photos and logo?
Yes. Upload pictures from your device or drop them onto the canvas, then crop and reposition them in their frames. Add your logo in the Brand panel and place it on the post.
Can I change a template's colours and fonts?
Yes. Each template uses a colour palette; change it in the Brand panel and the whole design follows. You can also edit any single element's colour, font, size and spacing.
PNG or JPG — which should I download?
PNG keeps text and sharp edges perfectly crisp, so it suits designs with type. JPG makes a smaller file, which suits photo-heavy posts. Both can be downloaded at standard, 2× or 3× resolution.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Editing and exporting happen in your browser, and your pictures and designs are kept in this browser's own storage. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. On small screens the editor switches between Design, Canvas, Properties and Layers views, and you can drag and resize with your finger. High-resolution downloads are quicker on a computer.
Will I lose my post if I close the tab?
No. Posts save automatically and reopen from My posts. They live in this browser only, so save a project file if you want a backup or want to move a post to another device.
