A simple way to practise speaking
Clear speech comes from three things: hearing sounds accurately, moving your mouth precisely, and speaking at a steady pace. These tools cover each one, so you can follow a short routine instead of guessing.
Listen first. Start with the Minimal Pair Trainer and the English Pronunciation Trainer to hear the sounds you mix up. Then move. Warm up with the articulation drills and a few tongue twisters from the generator. Finally, speak. Read a passage aloud, check your pace, and keep a streak with the daily five-minute routine.
Under the hood: 718 tongue twisters, 40 English sounds, 85 difficult words and 12 reading passages. IPA transcriptions come from the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary and Britfone. These tools are for practice and enjoyment, not a replacement for a teacher or a speech-language pathologist.
Frequently asked questions
Are the tongue twisters original?
Yes. The library has 718 tongue twisters: about 100 hand-written by us and the rest composed from our own word banks. They are not copies of the traditional rhymes.
Do these tools give a pronunciation score?
No, and that is deliberate. A trustworthy pronunciation score needs a trained acoustic model, so we don't invent one. You get timers, self-counted scores, text comparison from your browser's speech recogniser, and recordings to compare by ear. Every page says exactly what its numbers mean.
Do I need a microphone?
Only for the optional parts: recording yourself, and speech-to-text. The generator, challenges, trainers, quizzes and daily routine all work without one.
Which browsers work best?
Every browser can play the recorded voices. Chrome, Edge and Safari also support speech recognition (checking what you said); Firefox plays the voices but has no speech recognition, and the tools tell you when something isn't available instead of failing silently.
Is my voice uploaded?
M2Toolkit never receives your audio. Recordings stay in your browser's memory. In Chrome and Edge, the optional speech recognition uses the browser's own online speech service, and the pages that use it say so.
Where is my progress stored?
In your browser's local storage on this device: streaks, personal bests, WPM history and saved twisters. Clearing site data resets it.
