How to use the Wavelength Calculator
- Choose a general wave, light, or photon energy.
- Pick what to solve for.
- Enter the values and read the wavelength.
What does this tool do?
Wavelength is the distance between repeating points of a wave. It's linked to speed and frequency by λ = v ÷ f. A 440 Hz note in air (343 m/s) has a wavelength of about 78 cm.
For light, the speed is c, about 300,000 km/s. Green light at 545 THz has a wavelength near 550 nm. A photon's wavelength also follows from its energy: λ (nm) ≈ 1240 ÷ E (eV).
Why use it?
- Sound, light and photon modes.
- Nanometres and photon energy shown.
- Solve for any variable.
