How to use the Momentum Calculator
- Choose momentum or impulse.
- Pick what to solve for.
- Enter the other values in SI units.
What does this tool do?
Momentum is mass in motion: p = mv. A 145 g baseball at 40 m/s carries 5.8 kg·m/s. Momentum is conserved in collisions, which makes it central to mechanics.
Impulse J = FΔt is the change in momentum caused by a force acting over time — why airbags and crumple zones lengthen impact time to reduce force.
Why use it?
- Momentum and impulse in one tool.
- Kinetic energy shown too.
- Solve for any variable.
The formula
p = m × v
J = F × Δt = Δp
Accuracy and limits
- Values are in SI units (shown next to each field). Convert other units first, or use our unit converters.
