  2. Enter the percentage to add.
  3. Read the new value and the amount added.

What does this tool do?

This calculator answers questions like “what is $48,000 after a 4% raise?” or “what does a $250 item cost after a 12% price increase?”. It multiplies your number by (1 + percentage ÷ 100).

If you already know the old and new values and want the percentage, use the Percentage Change Calculator instead.

Why use it?

  • Gets the final number in one step instead of two.
  • Shows the multiplier so you can reuse it in a spreadsheet.
  • Works with decimals, such as a 2.5% raise.

Example: a pay rise

A salary of $48,000 rises by 4%. The increase is 48,000 × 0.04 = $1,920, so the new salary is $49,920. The multiplier is 1.04.

The formula

New value = Original × (1 + Percentage ÷ 100)
Amount added = Original × Percentage ÷ 100

Frequently asked questions

If prices rise 10% and then another 10%, is that 20%?

No, it's 21%. The second rise is applied to the already-higher price: 1.10 × 1.10 = 1.21.

How do I reverse a percentage increase?

Divide by the multiplier, don't subtract the percentage. A price of $110 after a 10% rise was $110 ÷ 1.10 = $100. Taking 10% off $110 gives $99, which is wrong.
