How to use the Percentage Decrease Calculator
- Enter the starting value.
- Enter the percentage to take off.
- Read the reduced value and how much was subtracted.
What does this tool do?
Use this for any reduction: a 15% budget cut, a 30% sale, or an item losing 20% of its value. It multiplies your number by (1 − percentage ÷ 100).
For shop discounts with a second “extra % off” deal, the Discount Calculator handles stacked discounts properly.
Why use it?
- One-step answer for reductions and discounts.
- Shows the multiplier and the amount removed.
- Flags results that go below zero.
Example: a budget cut
A $3,200 monthly budget is cut by 15%. The cut is 3,200 × 0.15 = $480, leaving $2,720.

Frequently asked questions
Does a 20% decrease followed by a 20% increase get me back to the start?
No. 100 falls to 80, and 20% of 80 is 16, so it only climbs back to 96. To undo a 20% decrease you need a 25% increase.
