How to use the Force Converter
- Type the force you want to convert.
- Choose the unit you have and the unit you want.
- Read the result and the reference table of common values.
What does this tool do?
The newton is the SI unit of force. Pounds-force and kilograms-force are the weight of one pound or one kilogram under standard gravity (9.80665 m/s²), so 1 kgf = 9.80665 N and 1 lbf ≈ 4.448 N.
Kips (1,000 lbf) are common in structural engineering, and dynes in older physics texts.
Why use it?
- Engineering and SI units.
- Standard-gravity definitions.
- Reference table.
