How to use the Data Transfer Rate Converter
- Type the speed you want to convert.
- Choose the unit you have and the unit you want.
- Read the result and the reference table of common values.
What does this tool do?
Internet providers advertise speeds in megabits per second (Mbps), but downloads show megabytes per second (MB/s). There are 8 bits in a byte, so a 100 Mbps connection downloads at most 12.5 MB/s.
Operating systems sometimes use binary units (MiB/s = 1,048,576 bytes per second), which look slightly smaller still.
Why use it?
- Bits and bytes side by side.
- Decimal and binary units.
- Reference table.

Why is my download slower than my plan?
