How to use the Sort Lines

  1. Type or paste your text into the box.
  2. Choose a sort order and whether to ignore case.
  3. Copy the result or download it as a text file.

What does this tool do?

Plain alphabetical sorting puts “item 10” before “item 2”. Natural sorting understands the numbers, so lists of files and versions come out in the order a person expects.

Shuffle uses your browser's secure random generator, so every order is equally likely.

Why use it?

  • Alphabetize names, glossaries and bibliographies.
  • Order files and versions naturally.
  • Randomize lists fairly.

Natural vs alphabetical

Alphabetical: file1, file10, file2. Natural: file1, file2, file10.
