How to use the Fuel Economy Converter
- Type the fuel economy figure you want to convert.
- Choose the unit you have and the unit you want.
- Read the result and the reference table of common values.
What does this tool do?
Fuel economy comes in two flavours. MPG and km/L measure distance per fuel — higher is better. L/100 km measures fuel per distance — lower is better. Because one is the reciprocal of the other, there's no single multiplier: the converter divides correctly.
UK and US gallons differ (4.546 vs 3.785 litres), so 30 mpg in the UK is only about 25 mpg in the US.
Why use it?
- Handles the reciprocal L/100 km properly.
- US and UK gallons.
- Reference table.
